Sub Surface Lines:
The oldest part of the London Underground system runs directly beneath the surface of city streets and, in outlying sections, mostly on the surface. These lines use standard railway-type rolling stock.Historically, many of the sub surface lines used to be proper railway lines served by local and intercity trains (including some of the underground portions).
